It has brought great meaning to my life to work with people in the way that I do; I am honoured to walk with others through both their pain and their triumphs. I am currently a doctoral student at the University of British Columbia and am a registered clinical counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I am also an active member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD) and remain involved in various research projects and continuing education in order to stay current and offer a variety of treatment options to best meet the needs of my clients.
Specializing in trauma therapy and attachment-related issues, I work with people around a variety of concerns, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), developmental trauma, emotional and relational concerns, anxiety, depression and stress. I have conducted award-winning research on trauma-related issues, attend annual conferences and lectures by some of the foremost researchers in trauma-related fields, and have training in a broad spectrum of attachment and trauma-oriented therapies, including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and Observed & Experiential Integration (OEI; in which I am a master trainer and supervisor). I have also taught undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology as a sessional instructor at TWU.
Above all, I recognize how challenging it may be to start the therapeutic process and I prioritize the relationship, striving to create a safe and attuned environment for those I work with. To witness healing change and personal growth in people who once felt distraught, overwhelmed, and hopeless brings significant meaning and joy to my life. I am privileged to do the work that I do and am continuously surprised, humbled and honoured by the resilience and courage I experience in those I work with.

“Becky has been a true Godsend to me. She has wisdom well beyond her years. She is kind and compassionate. So many times I have said to her, ‘You really do understand what I am telling you and what I went through!’ Other counsellors were so distant… they gave no reaction, no direction. Instead, Becky has listened to me.”
“Becky, thank you so much for the boost that our sessions have given me. I very much appreciate your helping me to dig myself out of all the muck under which I’m buried. I am trying to set boundaries and resolve issues so that I can really live. It’s not easy but the resulting sense of accomplishment, the strength and peace… the life… is more than worth the effort.”
“I have trained approximately 300 masters and doctoral students in the past 14 years, and I would place Becky Stewart among the top 5 for clinical competence and sophistication. She is able to effectively work with the most complex trauma cases I have seen, involving not only PTSD but also Dissociative Disorders. Her ability to comprehend and apply attachment theory in treatment is superb, as is her ability to consistently express warmth and genuineness with both clients and colleagues. She is highly skilled in the application of Observed Experiential Integration (OEI – a new trauma therapy) to the point where she is certified as a master trainer. I recommend her as a therapist without reservation!”
